On 17 December 2021, the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision under the EU General Data Protection Regulation in relation to transfers of personal data from the European Union to the Republic of Korea (South Korea). This is the final step in the process, following adequacy talks that concluded in March 2021. As a result, personal data can be transferred from the European Union to the Republic of Korea without the need to put in place any additional safeguards.
