Ministerial Decision 74/2000 was passed on June 18 2000. This decision amends certain sections of Decision 110/1998 with regard to the conditions for granting navigation licences in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Among other things, the old law provided that foreign vessels over 20 years old would not be granted navigation licences for the UAE. Subject to discretionary exemptions, the recent decision extends the licence by five years to include foreign vessels under 25 years old.
Classification, international convention and insurance requirements remain unchanged. Also remaining in place is the total embargo on navigation licences being issued for bunker vessels or fuel storage vessels in the territorial waters of the UAE if they are foreign flagged.
