Reports show that Brazil is taking effective steps towards reducing software piracy.

The Brazilian Association of Software Companies, the Business Software Alliance and the Entertainment Software Association have disclosed figures that confirm this statement.

During 2007 718 court actions were taken in Brazil, resulting in the apprehension of more than 2 million CDs containing pirated programmes. This represents an increase of 150% in comparison to 2006. In addition, 212 computers were seized, 243 sites selling pirate software were taken offline and 25,000 advertisements promoting the commerce of illegal products were eliminated.
