The Federal Environment Agency has prepared draft regulations on the treatment of hazardous materials and waste, including medical waste. After approval, the regulations will be incorporated into the executive order of Federal Law 24/1999 on environmental protection and development.
The draft regulations specify the authorities charged with the issuance of licences for each type of hazardous waste, and the conditions to be met in order to obtain licences for importing.
The regulations specify certain procedures for the management of hazardous waste, including mechanisms for:
- collection;
- storage;
- transfer and disposal; and
- other general procedures.
