On March 14 2002 the Federal Electricity Commission published an invitation to bid for two gas-fired combined-cycle power projects listed in the Federal Register. The first project is located in Altamira, in the state of Tamaulipas, and has a generation capacity of between 829 megawatts (MW) and 1,121 MW. The other is located in Mexicali in the state of Baja California, with a generation capacity of between 198 MW and 242 MW.
Because of the location of these projects and their proximity to the US border, significant private-sector interest is expected.
