On 1 December 2021, the Secretariat of Labour and Social Welfare and the Council of Representatives of the National Commission of Minimum Wages announced the following increases to minimum wages in Mexico, which came into effect on 1 January 2022:
- general minimum wage – 172.87 pesos (approximately $8.46) per day; and
- minimum wage for the northern cross-border region – 260.34 pesos (approximately $12.74) per day.
These figures represent an 22% increase from the minimum wages that were applicable in 2021.
This resolution should be considered for salary revisions to collective bargaining agreements. However, each case should be analysed on an independent basis.
