On 11 April 2022, the Luxembourg government submitted to the Chamber of Deputies a bill to extend the exemptions introduced by the amended law of 22 January 2021 until 23 July 2022.

Since the enactment of the amended law,(1) employees can claim leave if they have:

  • a vulnerable child – the employee must produce a medical certificate that confirms the nature of the vulnerability and the reasons why the child should not go to school or a care setting;
  • a child under the age of 13, who, for reasons connected to the covid-19 pandemic, cannot go to school or a care setting, or who benefits from remote learning – the employee must produce a certificate that confirms one of the relevant situations provided for by the Ministry for Education, Children and Youth; or
  • a child born on or after 1 September 2016.

This law has been extended several times due to the rapid development of the pandemic. The last extension was granted on 28 February 2022 and remained applicable until 30 April 2022.
