Steve Harris, CTO
Steve Harris is the CTO of Cipher. He was previously CTO of another UK-based start-up and prior to that an academic at the University of Southampton, specialising in artificial intelligence, information extraction and graph databases. Steve also advises the UK government and European Commission on issues of information security and artificial intelligence.
Niall McMahon, head of research
Niall is head of solutions at Cipher. In this role he leads the team that works directly with IP teams on integrating strategic patent intelligence into their workflows. This includes understanding key technologies and challenges to develop scalable and efficient solutions powered by Cipher. Niall has over 20 years’ experience in research and analysis, specifically covering upstream oil and gas, energy markets and above ground risk. Before joining Cipher in January 2020, Niall was senior vice president head of research with Verisk Maplecroft, the leader in development of environmental, social, governance and political risk analytics. Previous to that Niall was head of investment research with energy research firm Wood Mackenzie in New York.
