Summary

The updated requirements issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) for electric industry participants under the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Reliability Standards are intended to improve the electric industry’s cybersecurity posture by addressing certain cybersecurity risks associated with the supply chain. 

Please join the Reed Smith IP, Tech & Data Group for a CLE webinar providing practical tips for electric industry participants in taking a proactive approach to ensure their current software, systems, policies, and procedures are consistent with these new requirements. The program will touch on issues, including:

  • Overview of the NERC CIP Reliability standards, including recent and upcoming changes
  • Analysis of the roles of the FERC and NERC and their regulatory powers over the North American bulk power system
  • Discussion on the implications of the changes to the CIP Reliability Standards 
  • Lessons that can be learned from NERC’s enforcement actions
