Malta has been actively pursuing the creation of a crypto-friendly legislative framework which will give legal certainty to players in the industry whilst regulating them at the same time. James Farrugia and Leonard Bonello from GANADO Advocates will provide an overview of the proposed legislation and the business opportunities which are expected to materialise for Malta.

James Farrugia 
Mr James Farrugia leads the GANADO Advocates’ Investment Services and Funds team's licensing and regulatory consultancy activities. Leveraging his extensive experience working with the local competent authority, Mr. Farrugia offers clients regulatory sound insight and practical solutions throughout the licensing application process on an ongoing basis. James regularly contributes to international journals associated with investment funds and has addressed a number of local and international conferences focusing on this sector. 

Leonard Bonello 
Dr. Leonard Bonello is a Partner within GANADO Advocates’ Banking and Finance team, assisting credit institutions, electronic money institutions and payment institutions in regulatory and other matters including ongoing capital markets issues. Leonard also heads the Fintech group at GANADO and is involved in assisting a number of blockchain-based projects. Leonard assists financial institutions extensively in financing transactions and other banking operations with a particular focus on derivative contracts.
