In March 2012, the Los Angeles City Council approved a motion directing City Planning and the City Attorney to draft an Interim Control Ordinance (ICO) to temporarily prohibit the opening of new “formula retail uses” that are 20,000 square feet or greater in Chinatown. At the July 12, 2012, Planning Commission hearing, staff presented the draft ICO with a recommendation to disapprove. The Commission agreed with Planning staff and voted to disapprove the ICO and recommend that it not be adopted by the City Council. A copy of the staff report and draft ICO, CPC-2012-1504-ICO, can be found at http://cityplanning.lacity.org/ .
