- Outcomes from ATO's consultation on transparency reporting by ATO including confirmation that the ATO will only issue one final annual report with no updates made after its publication, tax information will be confirmed with the taxpayer before it is published, and taxpayers will not be categorised by industry groups when data is published.
Financial related crime
Report on Inquiry into financial related crime by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law Enforcement was tabled and included a recommendation that, subject to appropriate safeguards including adequate privacy and oversight arrangements, the government designate the ATO as a 'criminal law-enforcement agency' under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979, for the purpose of protecting public finances from serious criminal activities such as major tax fraud.
