South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs issued a plan June 29 guiding airlines to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent from business as usual levels by 2050. The ministry’s plan calls for upgrading airline fuel efficiency by an average 1.3 percent every year to achieve a reduction of 10.52 MMT of CO2 by 2050; the country’s 2010 airline emissions totaled 16 MMT.
