On 7 September, the FCA launched a new Financial Services Register aimed at making it easier to search for information on businesses, individuals and other bodies regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority.

The new Register has one search field to identify a firm, individual or collective investment scheme by looking up its name, reference number or postcode.  The search results can be filtered and clicking on a name will reveal further information such as contact details, the permissions a firm has or whether it is covered by the Financial Ombudsman Service and Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Unauthorised firms that have been reported to the FCA as providing regulated products or services, or are knowingly running a scam, will also be included in the Register for the first time – flagged in red text with a warning symbol.  The search results will also include consumer credit firms with interim permission so a separate search is not necessary.
