The Supreme Court has granted permission for the FirstGroup Plc v Paulley case (wheelchair priority on buses) to be appealed. Mr Paulley is appealing the Court of Appeal's decision in a case considering what reasonable adjustments a bus company is required to make in order to accommodate disabled wheelchair users.

The Court of Appeal had found in FirstGroup's favour, holding that a policy requiring a bus driver to compel passengers to vacate the wheelchair space irrespective of the reasons why they are in it and leaving no discretion to the driver was "a step too far". Nevertheless, on 8 July, a panel of three Judges sitting in the Supreme Court gave Mr Paulley permission to appeal this decision on the grounds of public interest.

A date for the final hearing is now awaited.
