On September 15, 2016, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) published in the Federal Register a final rule amending the Energy Labeling Rule to improve access to energy labels online and improve labels for refrigerators, ceiling fans, central air conditioners, and water heaters. The FTC is issuing these amendments to assist consumers in their purchasing decisions and ensure labels are consistent with Department of Energy requirements.

The amendments to 16 C.F.R. 305.3(x), 305.13, and Sample Label 17 of Appendix L are effective on September 17, 2018. All other amendments published in this document are effective on June 12, 2017.
