Two Copyright Amendment Bills have recently been passed in Thailand. Significant amendments resulting from these Bills include:
- Imposing penalties for recording movies in cinemas without permission of 6 months to 4 years imprisonment and fines of up to 800,000 baht;
- Introducing a further exception to infringement for the reproduction or adaptation of copyright works for the disabled; and
- Introducing penalties concerning Rights Management Information and for the circumvention of technological protection methods.
At present, no date has been provided for when these amendments will come into force.
