IFIGS has published its principles of funding for insurance guarantee schemes (IGS). The paper sets out various options that policymakers have considered when establishing an IGS. It covers issues such as:

  • principles, methods and sources of funding;
  • types of resolution for which an IGS may provide funding;
  • assessment base for calculating fees payable to an IGS; and
  • risk pools and segregation of different funds within an IGS.

IFIGS does not recommend any specific funding approach and makes no recommendations as to how an IGS should be established. IFIGS intends that these principles will provide the basis for future discussions and debate on funding for IGSs. (Source: IFIGS Publishes Principles of Funding)
