PhonepayPlus has updated its guidance on promoting premium-rate services (PRS) to help network operators and providers understand the standards set under its 13th code of practice, which came into force on 1 July 2015.

The guidance aims to assist network operators and providers when creating and using promotional material, and/or assessing the quality of third party promotional material for PRS prior to its use.

Key issues in the guidance include:

  • Transparency and pricing information in financial promotions;
  • Promoting via radio broadcast or over the internet;
  • Viral marketing;
  • Misleading and inappropriate promotions; and
  • Fundraising for charity using premium rate services.
