The Rehabilitation Code 2015 has been published ahead of its official implementation from 1 December 2015. The new code reinforces the original code and provides an approved framework for injury claims within which claimant and compensator representatives can work together. In particular, the code recognises the significant differences between handling low value injuries and more serious catastrophic injuries.

In a related step, the Serious Injury Guide came into effect on 12 October 2015. The best practice guide is designed to assist with the conduct of complex personal injury claims with a potential value (on a full liability basis) of £250,000 and above. The guide promotes collaboration between the parties. Key objectives include early notification, prompt (and meaningful) disclosure and a commitment to resolve liability within six months from first notification. The guide does not extend to clinical negligence or asbestos related disease claims.
