Intellectual Property update: Productivity Commission to commence inquiry into Australia's IP regime On 18 August 2015, the Australian Treasurer, Joe Hockey, and the Minister for Small Business, Bruce Billson, announced that the Productivity Commission will commence an inquiry into Australia's intellectual property arrangements. This important decision delivers on a key recommendation of the Competition Policy Review Final Report (Harper Review) released on 31 March 2015. The inquiry will focus on the effect of Australia's intellectual property legal framework on investment, competition, trade, innovation and consumer affairs. As part of its review, the Productivity Commission is to undertake a public consultation process and release a draft report to the public, with the final report to be provided to the Australian Government by August 2016.
