Peter Schaar, the predecessor of Andrea Voßhoff at the German Data Protection Office, has been elected president of the “Gematik” conciliation board, a body resolving conflicts between the insurance industry, doctors and pharmacists with regard to the electronic health card. “Gematik” is a national organization aiming at the modernization of health care through telematics infrastructure. The role of its conciliation board has been considerably strengthened by the recently adopted law on e-health. Schaar’s appointment is considered a signal for a stronger data protection policy.
