The President and the Secretary-Treasurer have been removed from their positions at the Chicago-based SEIU Local 73, and the Local has been placed under the control of an emergency trustee. The move follows a “debilitating dysfunction” created when the President and Secretary-Treasurer questioned one another’s legitimacy and authority. Local 73 represents some 28,000 municipal workers, including janitors, security guards, maintenance technicians, child-care providers, and bus drivers. Many of those employees work for the City of Chicago.
