The Energy Information Administration released its Annual Energy Outlook 2012 June 25, concluding that the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007’s requirement that mandates 36 billion gallons of biofuels in the nation’s fuel supply by 2022 is unlikely to be met. The outlook shows that biofuel production will increase substantially while coal-fired power will decline, but that fiscal and technological hurdles are expected to delay the start of advanced biofuel and cellulosic ethanol production projects.
