On October 1, 2014 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (hereinafter, the CMU) approved the  “National Action Plan for Renewable Energy for the Period till 2020” and “Action Plan to  Implement the National Action Plan for Renewable Energy for the Period till 2020”14 by its relevant  Ordinance (hereinafter, the Ordinance). According to the CMU Ordinance, the share of electricity  generated in Ukraine from renewable sources should be at least 11 % in the total energy consumption  by 2020.

The National Action Plan states that at the end of the first half of 2014 the total electrical  capacity of renewable energy facilities operating under the Green Tariff in Ukraine was 1419 MW.

The document stipulates that by 2020 the capacity of wind power plants in Ukraine should be  increased by 5.6 times – from 410 to 2280 MW, of solar power plants by 5.1 times – from 450 to 2300  MW, of small by 5.6 times – from 410 to 2280 MW, of solar power plants by 5.1 times – from 450 to 2300 MW, of  small hydropower facilities by 25% – from 120 to 150 MW, and of biomass by 40 times – from 24 MW to 950  MW.
