Through Legislative Decree No. 399 dated April 14, 2016, the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador declared May 10 of each year as "Mother's Day", a paid national holiday for public and private sector, including employees and workers of the Public and Municipal Administration, Autonomous Official Institutions and Semi-Autonomous, including the Salvadoran Social Security Institute and the Executive Hydroelectric Commission of the Lempa River, and other workers on payroll in general throughout the Republic, who work in any of the aforementioned bodies; in recognition of the effort and dedication that mothers provide to their children in their growth and development.  

The aforementioned legislative decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Journal.
