On 30 December 2014, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine (the “Ministry”) passed Order No. 1493 On Adoption of European and International Regulations as Ukraine National Standards, Amendments to National Standards of Ukraine and the Abolition of National Standards of Ukraine (“Order No. 1493”). The text of Order No. 1493 was published on the official web site of the Ministry on 5 January 2015.

According to Order No. 1493, starting from January 1 2016, European and international technical standards (regulations) will be used in Ukraine instead of existing national technical standards as Order No. 1493 amends and cancels certain national standards.

Under Order No. 1493, the Department of Technical Regulation and Metrology is obliged to publish the national standards of Ukraine that are to be amended. Most of them deal with the development, implementation and support of automated information systems (e.g. methods of protection, digital signature, processes of life circle of the systems, electronic trading etc.)

At the same time, the substance of the changes should be developed and announced to the public by the national standardisation body (the "Ukrainian Research and Training Centre of Standardisation, Certification and Quality Problems") during 2015.

The changes are taking place in accordance with the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement, which was ratified by the Parliament on 16 September 2014.
