Back in September 2008 we brought you news of the success of the Scotch Whisky Association in obtaining legal protection in China for the term "Scottish Whisky", helping to secure hard earned revenues in an important market place.

Far from resting on its laurels the Scotch Whisky Association has been hard at work on fresh target markets and has recently announced two further successes in East Asian markets which have a combined total value to the Scottish whisky industry of more than £40 million.

The markets in question are Malaysia and Thailand and the term that has been awarded protection in each territory is "Scotch Whisky".

These protections will come as a welcome boost to the industry and help to ensure that Scotland's national drink retains its reputation and profile in these lucrative markets.
