Earlier this month, OSHA Region VII announced that it was launching a new Region-wide Local Emphasis Program in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska designed to address certain industries viewed by OSHA as high-hazard manufacturing industries because the injury and illness rates exceed the average for the private sector. 

According to OSHA’s press release, the Region-wide Local Emphasis Program will "'increase the probability of inspections at establishments in high-hazard industries with more than 10 employees and those that have not had a comprehensive inspection since 2011.'” The following industrial sectors are identified in OSHA’s Regional Notice

  • Furniture and Related Product Manufacturing – NAICS 337 
  • Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing – NAICS 334 
  • Food Manufacturing – NAICS 311 
  • Nonmetallic Mineral Product Manufacturing – NAICS 327 
  • Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing – NAICS 332 
  • Machinery Manufacturing – NAICS 333 
  • Printing and Related Support Activities – NAICS 323 
  • Beverage and Tobacco Product Manufacturing – NAICS 312 
  • Miscellaneous Manufacturing – NAICS 332 
  • Wood Product Manufacturing – NAICS 321 
  • Primary Metal Manufacturing – NAICS 331
