On 17 August 2015, as part of the implementation of the China Football Reform Directive 《中国足球改革总体方案》 issued on 16 March 2015, the General Administration of Sport officially announced the China Football Association (“CFA“) Adjustment and Reform Directive 《中国足球协会调整改革方案》.  Pursuant to the CFA Adjustment and Reform Directive, the CFA will be completely autonomous from the Chinese government and operate without any state funding, and revisions to the CFA constitution 《中国足球协会章程》 will also be made.  The Chinese football governing body will be transformed into a non-governmental organisation, making it the only one of China’s 72 sports associations to be independent from the Chinese government, and it will have full control over its own finances, personnel, and international contracts and relationships.
