The Court fees that a prospective claimant will have to pay on issuing a money claim will increase as of next Monday 9 March. The Law Society has been very critical of the increases and is concerned about the “detrimental effect on [its] members, consumers and small businesses”. By way of example, the fee for issuing a claim for £90,000 will increase from £910 to £4,500. If you intend on issuing a claim for £200,000 you’ll have to stump up £10,000; a 576% increase on the existing fee of £1,515.
Assuming you’ve followed the necessary pre-action steps and you’re intending to issue proceedings, you’ll probably want to do so before the end of the week.
