The European Commission has authorised €15.5m in regional investment aid for the German company Sovello AG for a new solar modules plant in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, to be situated adjacent to two existing plants. The solar modules use string-ribbon technology converting sunlight into electricity. The project as a whole will cost €147m and is expected to create at least 320 jobs in the region. The Commission concluded that the investment was in line with the thresholds under the Regional Aid Guidelines for large projects and that it was unlikely to raise competition issues.
