American Tank & Fabricating (AT&F), based in Cleveland, will “provide monopile fabrication services for Project Icebreaker, the demonstration offshore wind project planned off the coast of Cleveland,” nawindpower.com reports. AT&F’s experience fabricating monopiles, which are required for offshore wind turbines, led to its selection for the project. Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. (LEEDCo), the project developer, says “the monopile design will catalyze domestic manufacturing growth by removing the barriers to entry faced by U.S.-based steel fabricators that want to supply foundations for the offshore wind industry.” (For more on this, see our December 23, 2014 blog post.) The design received a $2.8 million award from the Department of Energy. For more, read thefull article.
