The Plain Dealer is reporting that civil litigation across the state has decreased dramatically in the past several years. Most notably, civil litigation in Cuyahoga County has dropped 34 percent since 2010. This is above the statewide figure of 26 percent. Civil litigation in federal court has declined as well, dropping 5 percent from 2010 to 2014.

Why the decrease? One of the major reasons is the decrease in foreclosure actions, now that the economy continues to recover. But, a shift away from the cost of litigation cannot be discounted either. More and more litigants are looking to alternative means to resolve disputes, such as mediation or collaborative efforts. No doubt, this is a welcome trend that will hopefully continue.
