The Claimant attended the Defendant hospital complaining of acute chest pain and was diagnosed as suffering from myocardial infarction. He received medication via intravenous cannula in his right hand. His right arm became swollen within a few hours and he suffered compression syndrome requiring carpel tunnel decompression.
The Claimant alleged that the Defendant had been negligent in failing to notice extravasation of fluid in the arm, and adequately diagnosing and treating the compartment syndrome. He suffered significant functional impairment to the right arm preventing his return to work as an HGV driver. Liability admitted.
Out of court settlement: £100,000 (estimated General Damages £25,000).
