In connection with the U.S. Government’s economic sanctions against certain Iranian entities, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a further warning on July 19, 2012 against dealings with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines. The company was proscribed by OFAC in September 2008. The U.S. Government warns that assisting Iran Shipping Lines with reflagging or other activities could constitute an illegal provision of services to a person whose property is blocked and might lead to the service provider being sanctioned. The warning further indicates that persons should be on the look out for fraudulent vessel registration and other shipping documents.
