The Australian Government has announced its plans to introduce changes to the temporary activity visa framework.

The new framework will see to the restructure and repeal of several visa subclasses including the Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) (Subclass 400) and the Training and Research (Subclass 402) visas. Effective from 19 November 2016, the Subclass 400 visa will be restructured and a new Training (Subclass 407) visa will be introduced. The Subclass 407 visa will replace the existing Training and Research (Subclass 402) visa.

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has not made any further announcements beyond the outline of the intended changes. The limited information available makes it difficult to assess whether the proposed amendments will make any significant changes in practice.
