Discount securities brokerage firm Scottrade announced Friday October 2, 2015, that sensitive personal data of 4.6 million customers was compromised during a data breach occurring between late 2013 and early 2014. The company claims that social security numbers, email addresses, and other personal information was contained in the data base, but that only names and addresses appear to have been accessed by the cyber thieves.

The company also stated that its trading platforms and client fund accounts were not accessed as a part of this breach. Representatives further claimed that client passwords were fully encrypted at all times.
