The presidents of the EU’s three main institutions painted a bleak picture of the EU during a debate in Rome this week on the future of Europe. According to reports, EU Council President Donald Tusk has stated that “The idea of one EU state, one vision … was an illusion”, while European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker complained that   EU citizens did not understand what the European Union was trying to do and that “Now we have too many part-time Europeans”. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, has come out in support of Brexit, saying the UK would be “better off” outside of the EU.
