On August 26, the U.S. Department of Defense issued an interim rule, effective immediately, that requires DoD contractors and subcontractors to institute new cybersecurity safeguards for “defense information” and to report breaches of such information or of their networks. The rule also establishes policy on DoD’s purchase of cloud computing services, including a requirement that “Government data” be stored on servers in U.S. territory. Comments on the interim rule are due by October 26, 2015.
