On 28 June the Office of Fair Trading (“OFT”) published its response to a supercomplaint from Which? in relation to payment surcharges, as applied, in particular, in the passenger transport sector. The OFT found that retailers may mislead consumers by separating compulsory charges from their advertised headline prices. It considers that retailers should make headline prices meaningful for comparative purposes, and should provide clear information on charges that apply to different payment mechanisms. Read more
