Happy New Year to all of you!
You would be aware that we had previously reported that the JAEPA (aka the Japan FTA) will start on 15 January 2015. Which, according to my diary is tomorrow.
I have been delivering a number of sessions on JAEPA including a CBFCA webinar on the Agreement and its commercial aspects together with some specifics on its use and implementation as part of my CBFCA Legal Forums in December 2014.
Some other reminders on available resources are as follows
- The DFAT website for the JAEPA here
- The very new Customs Notice on JAEPA here
- Customs new Instruction and Guideline on JAEPA Rules of Origin here
- The forthcoming Customs information sessions to be held in February with details here
I trust that you are all prepared for the commencement and excited at the prospect of new preferential rates of duty on Japanese goods tomorrow. Just make sure that you have the proper paperwork to hand and that your clients can verify origin and the manner of consignment of the goods when required.
As always, if in doubt, check and ask questions first – and don’t guess and hope.
