In our blog dated March 30, 2015, “Update on Florida Construction Defect Legislation”, we discussed that HB 87 was in its final committee, the House Judiciary Committee.

HB 87 passed the House by a vote of 116-0 on April 16, and passed the Senate by a vote of 35-4 on April 24.

HB 87 is now “enrolled” (on April 24), meaning that it has passed both houses of the Florida Legislature in identical form and has been sent to Governor Scott.   The Governor can sign the bill into law, allow it to pass into law without his signature, or veto it.  If HB 87 becomes law, it will have a significant impact on construction defect claims in Florida.
