Further to our May posting, the laws affecting organisations who work with vulnerable individuals (including children) will change on 10 September. A guidance leaflet has now been published explaining how the changes will operate in practice.
In summary the main changes to the regime from 10 September will be:
- A revised definition of “regulated activity”
- Repeal of the “controlled activity” category
- Changes to the law governing how police forces can provide sensitive information about individuals to others
- Under 16s will no longer be able to apply for CRB checks
Further changes are planned from December, when the work of the Criminal Records Bureau and the Independent Safeguarding Authority will be merged under the control of the new “Dislosure and Barring Service”.
