The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has adopted new cybersecurity regulations governing nuclear power reactor facilities, which impose mandatory notification requirements in the event of a cybersecurity breach.  The rule is designed to help the Commission “respond to emergencies, monitor ongoing events, assess trends and patterns, identify precursors of more significant events, and inform other NRC licensees of cyber security-related events, enabling them to take preemptive actions, if necessary.”  Previously, reporting of cyber breaches was only voluntary.
