The European Ombudsman has issued a consultation on the transparency of trilogue negotiations through which European authorities agree legislative proposals. As part of the investigation leading up to the consultation the European Ombudsman reviewed two closed trilogue files including the Mortgage Credit Directive. It also asked the European institutions to explain how they deal with transparency during negotiations. It asks for views on how transparency might improve, including what documents the institutions should make public and at what stage, by 31 March 2016.
