An HSE news release records that nearly one in four construction sites visited by inspectors in March 2010 failed safety checks. In an equivalent round of inspections last year, one in five sites failed. The programme of inspections was designed to reduce death and injury in one of Britain's most dangerous industries. 691 enforcement notices were handed out at 470 sites, and in 359 cases work was ordered to be stopped immediately. 2,014 construction sites and 2,414 contractors across Great Britain were inspected (click here)
