On 1 January 2015, the London agreement entered into force in Norway.  Any European patents having an English specification can now be validated in Norway using a Norwegian translation of the claims.  European patents having a French or German specification can be validated by filing an English or Norwegian translation of the description, together with a Norwegian translation of the claims.

This is good news especially for sectors that have a particular interest in the Norwegian market, such as offshore technologies, oil and gas as well as the fishing industries.  With similar provisions for the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and Finland, and no translation requirements for validation in the UK, Ireland and Germany, cost effective protection across the Nordic and North Sea regions can now be obtained for European patents having an English specification.
