The Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), reminded online gambling operators last week that targeting the Dutch market is prohibited under the Betting and Gaming Act. This applies to online games of chance, as well as advertising sporting bets for events such as the European Championships.
The KSA issued the release after it came to light that operators may currently be preparing gambling-related advertisements. The summer sports season sees increased levels of online advertising, which could tempt viewers to use unregulated online gambling sites, illegal in the Netherlands.
The KSA emphasized that operators who do not comply with the Dutch rules may be subject to serious sanctions, including jeopardising future licence applications.
A licence issued under the revised Betting and Gaming Act will allow gambling operators to legally offer remote games of chance to the Dutch market, once the Act has come into effect.
