Ohio Senator Cliff Hite (R-Findlay) and Ohio Representative Tony Burkley (R-Paulding) joined Iberdrola Renewables for the presentation of checks from the 304-megawatt Blue Creek Wind Farm to officials in Van Wert and Paulding counties, Gongwer reports. Van Wert County has 115 of the wind farm’s turbines, and “will receive more than $2 million in annual ‘payments in lieu of taxes,’” while Paulding County, which has 37 turbines, will receive $666,000 annually. A total of two counties, six townships and four school districts will each receive a share of the payments, which are made in installments twice a year. Sen. Hite said the payments “highlight the importance of wind energy in northwestern Ohio,” adding, “[h]arnessing the natural resources available in our area has attracted good jobs, produced local economic benefits, and given us energy security.” Rep. Burkley stated, “[t]his wind farm has already made a positive and long-lasting impact on these communities by creating jobs that can’t be exported, investing in local education, and spreading the benefits around.”
